Rain City Chronicles: Vancouver in Six Acts, presented by Vancouver is Awesome. Your stories, live! Part lo-fi community event, part voyeuristic encounter, Vancouver in Six Acts is a six-part storytelling showcase for short and true tales on a changing theme, complete with home-baked snacks and music. Come laugh, listen and be entertained by the most interesting strangers you haven’t met. Yet.

With support from the City of Vancouver’s 125th Anniversary Grants Program and the participation of the Government of Canada.

As Vancouver celebrates its 125th anniversary, Simon Fraser University’s Philosopher’s Cafe series spotlights this important moment in our city’s history with two events: “The Vancouver Identity” on February 21 and “Vancouver at 125 — where do we go from here?” on April 14.

Comfortable surroundings for vibrant street level discussions on burning issues of the day. No formal philosophy training required; real life experience desired. Come early, stay late. These cafés are free of charge and co-sponsored by Vancouver 125.

The Vancouver Identity
Looking beyond marketing and mythology, how do we define ourselves as residents of Canada’s west coast metropolis? What are the qualities and characteristics that distinguish us as Vancouverites?

Vanessa Richards, born in Vancouver, is an multidisciplinary artist and facilitator with a foundation in writing, music, performance, theatre, and collaboration. Her interests include participatory process, social sustainability, and the role of the arts and artists in urban regeneration.

As Vancouver celebrates 125 years as a city, how does our past inform our present and what aspirations do we have for our city into the future?

As part of Vancouver’s 125th Anniversary year celebrations SFU’s department of History has planned a year-long lecture series exploring different aspects of Vancouver’s history.
