Vancouver’s 125th Anniversary Celebrates Vancouver’s Eldest Citizens

The project will engage, inspire honour and celebrate Vancouver’s older adults in our community through community social events and the Lifelong Journey mini biographies documented in a Poster Project. These celebrations will take place in 14 locations in Vancouver, Community Centres, Aboriginal Friendship Centre, South Granville Senior’s Centre, and 411 Seniors Centre. We are targeting 42 Vancouver seniors for the Lifelong Journey Project (3 elders at each location) and plan to celebrate with our partners and hundreds of community members.

This project will highlight the history of Vancouver’s local communities through the Lifelong Journeys of each of the 42 seniors amazing stories. We will be engaging local youth in the project to interview and record the elders selected in their community.

In late June, Musqueam First Nation will host several days of celebration to commemorate Vancouver’s 125th Anniversary. Events will include National Aboriginal Day festivities and the first Canadian Citizenship Ceremony to be held on a First Nation reserve. Musqueam’s Cultural Celebration will be a grand celebration of art, culture and heritage, fostering awareness and creating long-lasting relationships between the Musqueam community and the surrounding communities in the City of Vancouver. We look forward to celebrating Vancouver’s growing diversity and Musqueam’s lasting cultural pride.

Collingwood Days 2011 – An Old Fashion Fair with a Multicultural Flair! Celebrating Collingwood’s Heritage & Vancouver’s 125 Anniversary

An old fashion fair with a multicultural flair! Collingwood Days is a fun-filled event with multicultural food, activities and entertainment, and includes a world class BMX bike air show, carnival games, bouncy castles and a climbing wall, international marketplace, food fair, cultural performances and a tipi display. To celebrate Vancouver’s 125th anniversary, Collingwood Days is featuring The Collingwood Historical Pavilion, where the Carleton gymnasium will display a 100 years of history from the neighbourhood. There will be a Strawberry Tea for seniors and a cake cutting ceremony for everyone. There is something for everyone!
