Dzunukwa Beneath the Canopy and Through the Underworld: Stories, Songs and Celebrations

Western Front New Music, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Public Library bring together music students and the aboriginal community to celebrate Vancouver’s 125th birthday.

Former VSO Composer in Residence Scott Good collaborates with ‘Namgis First Nation musician William Wasden to tell the story of Dzunukwa, a venerated figure from Kwakwaka’wakw mythology who brings wealth to communities.

Vancouver Symphony musicians join over 100 music students from four public schools to perform en masse across the levels of the Vancouver Public Library atrium.

The evening also features a large work by legendary American/Rome-based composer Alvin Curran, Brass Mob Steals AC (Alvin Curran) Fake Book.

Re–LIVE Vancouver will take a consciously critical stance to revisiting performance art history by looking at the current trend and discourse around re-performance in a uniquely local way that both examines the profound history of avant-garde Vancouver performance art and invites the participation of our exciting emergent art community. For this occasion we will invite emerging Vancouver artists to respond to historically significant performance milestones created in this city over five decades by visionary and radical senior Vancouver artists. Presented by LIVE Biennale of Performance Art Society in partnership with Satellite Gallery.
