The British Columbia Society for Public Education is proud to launch school pages at the Vancouver Schools 125 Yearbook website www.vancouverschools125.org.
“There are so many remarkable activities happening in schools,” commented Helesia Luke, the Project Manager. “From artist-in-residence programs, to aquaponic gardens, to community volunteerism – Vancouver students are involved in exciting projects in their neighbourhoods and communities.”
The Yearbook project aims to collect stories through discussions with students, educators and parents. The project has developed a toolkit for school-based groups to hold their own “Celebration Cafés” to talk about the unique ways their school promotes diversity, Aboriginal culture, and positive changes in the local community.
“We know schools have a special role in their neighbourhoods,” says Luke. “This project is a concrete way for individuals to tell us their story and the story of their school.”
Here are a few ways students, educators, parents and alumni can get involved:
1. Use the “Tell Us About Your School” link and fill out the online survey. Your information will be posted in a few days.
2. Organize a group of students, parents or educators at your school to have a conversation using our Discussion Guide for School Communities.
3. Send us photos, videos, student or class work, awards or articles that illustrate the unique and special activities that happen at your school.
4. Visit your school page and post your comments – just like a ‘real’ year book!
