The Vancouver Book and Magazine Fair Society producing The Word On The Street Festival

Date: September 23 - 25, 2011
Location: Vancouver
Website: www.thewordonthestreet.ca/wots/vancouver

In 2011, The Word On The Street Festival Vancouver is expanding to a three day event. Programming will celebrate the history of the written word in Vancouver and contemporary writing with a Vancouver theme. Programming will include writings that address the history of Vancouver, locations in Vancouver, the people of Vancouver, and stories set in Vancouver. Vancouver writers both current and past will be highlighted. We are most excited about our partnership with the Carnegie Centre for Saturday September 24th. This venue will primarily be used to program writing with a Downtown Eastside focus.

Thunderbird - THEN and NOW

Date: June to December 2011
Location: Thunderbird Community Centre catchment area
Website: www.thunderbirdcc.ca

THUNDERBIRD – Then and Now is a Digital Storytelling Workshop initiative to get the Thunderbird elders and youth together to share their experiences/stories of living in this special community. Two artist/mentors will work with the community using digital technology to write short stories, record audio and edit short video stories together. These digital stories will be shared online and at celebration screenings at the community centre. These stories will also be shared with Vancouver Stories 125, a citywide Digital Storytelling Project and thus generate an even larger audience!
