The Vancouver Park Board has announced its Remarkable Women poster series for 2011. The 12 posters depict local women who are or were ‘community builders.’ The posters can be viewed online and in community centres and other facilities.
In keeping with the City’s 125 Anniversary celebrations, the theme for 2011 is community builders in recognition of the fact that a strong and vibrant city is built by its inhabitants. These women, of diverse backgrounds and abilities, represent a commitment to improving their communities through volunteerism, hard work, advocacy and a passionate dedication to change for the good of everyone.
On March 8, 2011, a reception open to the public will be held at Creekside Community Centre from 7-9pm to celebrate the achievements of the Remarkable Women 2011. Download the invite to the free public event on March 8 to celebrate Vancouver’s Remarkable Women (PDF)
In addition, poster making workshops will be held in the days leading up to International Women’s Day at various Vancouver community centres, giving members of the public the opportunity to make a personalized poster of a remarkable woman from their own life.
The workshop schedule is available for download on the Vancouver Parks Board website.
