The Vancouver Park Board has announced its Remarkable Women poster series for 2011. The 12 posters depict local women who are or were ‘community builders.’ The posters can be viewed online and in community centres and other facilities.
“The Park Board is pleased to celebrate the achievements of these remarkable women,” said Park Board Chair Aaron Jasper. “While we acknowledge these 14 women we also recognize the thousands of other women who have made Vancouver the world-class city that it is today.”
This is the third year the Park Board has created a Remarkable Women poster series. The 2011 theme of community builders ties into the City’s 125th Anniversary celebrations and recognizes that strong communities are built by the people who inhabit them. The posters feature women from diverse backgrounds, abilities and are representative of different aspects of community building.
Featured on the posters are:
The 12 posters are available for viewing online and in Vancouver community centres, libraries, schools, and other public buildings. Public workshops will be held throughout February in community centres around the city giving the public an opportunity to create their own posters and celebrate a Remarkable Woman from their own life.
A reception will be held on March 8, 2011 at Creekside Community Centre to honour Vancouver’s Remarkable Women as well as celebrating the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day. Details on the 2011 Remarkable Women, workshop dates and information on the celebration is available at vancouverparks.ca
