Date: Mid-July until the late fall
Location: South Hill: 47th & Fraser; 45th & Fraser (lanes west of Fraser)
Website: www.southhillcommunity.ca
As a part of Vancouver’s 125th anniversary celebrations, INSIDE STORIES, an interactive website created by a team of artists, the community of South Hill and the South Vancouver Neighbourhood House, is moving OUTSIDE transforming the streets and alleys just west of Fraser street into an enormous community art gallery. Six images from INSIDE STORIES will be blown up to mural size (8’ X 12’) and pasted on outside walls. Photographer Shannon Mendes’ stunning black and white photos are not polite publicity shots. Some are stark, some poignant. All of them portray the diverse community that calls South Hill home. The project is part of a worldwide movement of massive community portraits led by renowned French street artist JR, who “exhibits freely on the streets of the world, catching the attention of people who are not museum visitors.” This temporary exhibition will remain up from Mid-July until the late fall.
